The study is evaluating self-care in women living with a specific type of heart failure (HFpEF). Self-care is the cornerstone of living well with heart failure. However, little is known about HFpEF specifically and self-care. HFpEF effects more women than men, but women have been underrepresented in clinical research about heart failure, this creates a health inequality. Self-care on its own is a complex topic, the reality of women within healthcare and society is also complex, HFpEF as a syndrome, with its associated multiple long-term conditions and its treatments are complex too. To address these multi-layered complexities a realist evaluation is posed.
