Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are at increased risk of a range of difficulties. Emotion regulation, peer, and co-occurring mental health problems are prominent challenges. To better support adolescents with ADHD,interventions that work in real-world settings are needed. Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) designs (i.e. study designs that collect data at multiple time points throughout the day over multiple days or weeks) can inform such interventions. In the mental health in the moment ADHD (MHIM-ADHD) study,we will use an EMA design to illuminate how,in the flow of their daily lives, adolescents with ADHD may experience difficulties with emotion regulation and peer problems and how these may contribute to co-occurring mental health and behavioural issues. We will combine this in-the-moment data collection design with comprehensive information collected from online surveys at the beginning and at the end of the study. The data collected as part of this study is anticipated to inform the development of future interventions aiming to address emotion regulation and peer problems in adolescents with ADHD.

Start dates may differ between countries and research sites. The research team are responsible for keeping the information up-to-date.

To maximise the representativeness of the sample, there will be no exclusion criteria based on co-occurring neurodevelopmental or mental health issues; however,we will exclude participants in an active crisis. For some sub-analyses conducted as part of this project, data from of individuals with a - confirmed Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis; - co-occurring mental health conditions; - confirmed Intellectual Disability diagnosis; - confirmed Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder diagnosis,as well as data from their parents may be excluded.
