The goal of this proposal is to prevent mental ill health, enhance social functioning and improve associated outcomes for young people, aged 16-24 years, who are living in deprived rural and coastal regions with elevated mental health symptoms and functional impairment, but who are not currently receiving mental health care. We will achieve this goal by co-designing,implementing and evaluating an asset-based service model of youth mental health care that engages community members in key task-sharing roles as intervention providers and link workers. We will work collaboratively with stakeholders in Kent and Sussex, ensuring that referral pathways, intervention content and delivery systems, and service implementation plans are tailored to local contexts. The project will have two overall objectives each of which will cover separate work packages that will seek to answer several Research questions. These are summarised below:
Objective 1: To develop an in-depth understanding of social determinants, services and community assets that are relevant to youth mental health in the research sites.
Objective 2: To formulate an overarching ‘Theory of Change’ that links the operational plan with resources, activities, and outcomes at the research sites.
