This study is currently going through retrospective adoption to the CRN portfolio and the information on this R&D formd relates to the initial pilot phase of the study which in 2009 was ineligible for portfolio status due to funding constraints. Following the success of the pilot phase, a cohort has been established and the project has been awarded funding from CICRA thus enabling retrospective adoption. As the cohort has now been established and the project evolved, a substantial amendment is in preparation to reflect the maturing research goals. Claire Eckert (NIHR Portfolio Team, Leeds), Karen Matthews (CSPU, London) and Prof. Sir John Burn (Chair of the NIHR Genetics Specialty Group) are all appraised of this project's current status.
This study sets out to collect a cohort of children with inflammatory bowel disease. For each patient we aim to collect detailed clinical information including details of treatments and follow up. We will collect blood samples that will allow both genetic and serum analyses. Where possible we will also recruit family members and record their clinical information. Analysis of the types and degree of genetic variation between those affected by IBD and those not will allow us to assess the role of genetic variants in this disease and outcomes of treatment.
Start dates may differ between countries and research sites. The research team are responsible for keeping the information up-to-date.
The recruitment start and end dates are as follows:
