In some summaries, you may come across links to external websites. These websites will have more information to help you better understand the study.

Trauma in people with diabetes and damaged nerves can lead to the Charcot foot in which overactive bone breaking cells cause bone damage and destruction. Despite prolonged protection in a cast, the foot becomes deformed. This may lead to lower limb amputation.
Currently, no therapies prevent bone destruction. We propose to develop in the laboratory a bone-strengthening system to be applied at the site of bone damage. We will assess how to reduce the overactivity of bone breaking cells by testing different proteins attached to substances known as bioceramics.
Such material will be used to deliver these proteins to repair injured bones and improve healing.
