In this research study, we are hoping to discover changes in our genetic material (DNA) that may cause people to develop cancer or tumours. We are already aware of some genetic changes that some of the population have, which mean they are at an increased risk of developing cancer or tumours. However, there are still many patients who have had cancer and/or a strong family history of cancer without a known genetic change. We suspect that there are more genetic changes that are yet to be identified. We are hoping that by looking at different regions of the genetic material, than is currently investigated in routine clinical testing, we may be able to identify further genetic changes that increase the risk of developing cancer or tumours.
Participants will be invited to the research study due to them previously having been through clinical testing to try and identify the genetic cause for their personal/ family history of cancer. Participants will be recruited at a number of NHS trusts across the UK with The Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine being the coordinating centre. The study will involve participants providing a blood sample or access to a sample previously taken to allow genetic analysis by the study team. The study is being funded through 2 research grants, from Prevent Breast Cancer who are a non-commercial partner of The National Institute of Health Research and also the Department of Defense office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).
Start dates may differ between countries and research sites. The research team are responsible for keeping the information up-to-date.
The recruitment start and end dates are as follows:

You may not be able to take part if:
Patients will be excluded from participating in the research study if any of the following apply: 1. There is no stored sample available for the patient, and they are unwilling/unable to provide a further sample. 2. Patients have not yet had all appropriate clinical testing available to try and identify a genetic cause for the development of their cancer or tumour. 3. Patients for whom informed consent to participate cannot/has not been obtained.
Below are the locations for where you can take part in the trial. Please note that not all sites may be open.
