[Tom is walking down a residential street to his house]

I have struggled with ear, nose and throat problems for a number of years.

[Tom is talking to camera]

From as long as I can remember really. I was referred from my GP to the hospital, and by chance, really, kind of spoke with the consultant, and was offered this as an opportunity.

[Tom is shown typing on his laptop]

And I thought, yeah, why not? You know, the opportunity’s there to take part in something that can benefit people that are like me in a similar situation.

[Tom is talking to camera]

I went in for day surgery, and I had all of my sinuses kind of cleaned out, all of the polyps removed. Suddenly I've got the ability to breathe through my nose with no constriction or anything like that. It’s, you know, it's given me a new lease of life. Had I not had the opportunity to take part in the research that I took part in, I really think that, you know, I wouldn't want to do half of the activities that I do now. Purely and simply because it was too much of a struggle. And I didn't see the benefits because I'd have suffered because of not being able to breathe in a way that I am able to now. Research and all the kinds of observations and stuff that I've taken throughout and all the check-ups and what have you, to be a small part of that is, you know, really, really quite - I'm proud to say I've helped in some way. Taking part in research changed my life. And I'm sure it could do the same for you.
