Over a million people take part in research across the UK every year, making important advances in health and social care possible.

But finding suitable participants for your study isn't always easy. Be Part of Research aims to change that.

Delivered by the National Institute for Health and Care Research in partnership with the NHS and the devolved nations, Be Part of Research makes it easy for people to find and take part in research.

We also offer the first UK-wide registry for all health and care specialties, giving researchers and sponsors free and easy access to research-engaged volunteers from across the UK, enabling study teams to recruit more quickly and effectively.

So how does it work?

Be Part of Research supports a broad range of research, from lifestyle questionnaires to clinical trials taking place at local hospitals, GP surgeries, at home or in care or community settings.

When signing up, volunteers consent to be contacted about research opportunities in their area. They choose the conditions and research areas that interest them, or sign up as a healthy volunteer.

We then select the most suitable volunteers for your study from hundreds of thousands of research-ready members of the public on our system and invite them to take part by email.

We identify volunteers based on age, ethnic group, sex, location and condition.

Matched volunteers can then decide if they want to take part in the research.

Studies that are funded or supported by NIHR are eligible to use Be Part of Research. Study teams need Research Ethics Committee approval to use the service as a recruitment tool, as well as a prescreener or website for interested volunteers to engage with your research team.

By working together, we can help improve care and treatments faster for everyone.
